Kerang is the gateway to beautiful lakes and waterways and one of the largest Ibis colonies in Australia. Kerang is part of a myriad of 57 lakes, swamps and marses that form one of Australia'a most inportant wetlands.
| There are loads of activities for both residents and visitors including: bushwalking, camping, bird watching and fishing, The Kerang Region is also extremely well known for water sports in the area. Clean, clear fresh water provides boating enthusiasts with the a dream location. Boating, yachting, canoeing, water skiing or swimming.
The Kerang Lakes System, in particular, Lake Charm, Lake Boga and Kangaroo Lake offers a playground for every water sport imaginable. All three lakes provide on site camping and caravaning facilities in a beautiful lakeside setting.
The lakes are also used to host ski racing and have recently hosted the Victorian Ski Racing Titles.
| Water Skiing Head to the Kerang Lakes Region and strap on a pair of waterskis. The Kerang Lakes attract the experienced water skiers who visit regularly and offers calmer waters providing an easy and enjoyable introduction to the sport for those less steady on their feet. Preferred sites are the popular wider stretches of river at Mildura, Echuca and Torumbarry as well as Lake Boga, Other favourite destinations for waterskiing and wakeboarding include the extensive lake system in the Kerang Wetlands, in particular Lake Charm, Lake Boga and Kangaroo Lake off the Murray Valley Highway, as well as Lake Mulwala to the east of Echuca and Lake Hume near Albury Wodonga. | Canoeing If you prefer your camoeing gentle and relaxing , the Kerang Lakes Region offers excellent flat water canoeing experiences with no rapids or white water. Bring/Hire a canoe and explore the lakes, paddling calm waters beneath red gums and stopping at shady lakeside clearings for a picnic or spot of fishing. For an adventurous alternative, pack gear into kayaks for an overnight camping trip.
Paddle a canoe through calm waters to the sound of birdsong and croaking frogs. A year-round activity, explore the Gunbower Creek near Koondrook jabout 15mins from Kerang. Follow the recreational canoe trail located on the Gunbower Island, approximately 6 kilometres from Koondrook.
The Murray River is host to the longest canoe race in the world. The annual Murray Marathon in December is a gruelling 404 kilometre race taking in the length of the Murray between Yarrawonga and Swan Hill and attracting over 6,000 participants.
