Kerang Community Plan

Welcome to the Kerang Community Plan Information Page

What is the Kerang Community Plan?
The Kerang Community Plan is a two-year Community Building Initiative funded by the Department for Victorian Communities (DVC). Its aim is to assist the people of Kerang to work together to strengthen and build their community's capacity. It will provide opportunities for the Kerang community to:
  • recognise and record the strengths and assets they already have as a foundation for working together
  • work together on projects and ideas they are interested in pursuing or have already commenced
  • plan and act on new projects that will build on the sustainability of Kerang

Made up of a wide spread of locals keen to get the Community Building Initiative (CBI) off the ground, an Interim Steering Committee met for the first time in early October 2006 to discuss and plan the Kerang Community Plan's first major project: the Kerang Community Opportunity Workshop (KCOW).

The KCOW was held on 29 November 2006 and attracted 150
Kerang community members who came together to:

  • decide on a common vision for Kerang
  • agree on priority projects and activities
  • call for community participants to implement projects
  • call for commmunity participants on the Local Steering Committee

The Local Steering Committee, and the work done at the KCOW, will now guide the Kerang Community Plan CBI for the remainder of the two-year period.

Tracey Davis, as the project facilitator, will support and guide the Kerang community in their efforts to initiate ideas and plan and implement actions. This includes assisting people to:
  • identify opportunities for development in whatever areas the community wishes to focus on (arts, tourism, health, small business, sport, education);
  • work in project groups to plan projects and put their plans into action;
  • identify areas for learning, and arrange training opportunities; and
  • develop working relationships between communities, organisations and government bodies.

Ms Davis will report regularly to the Steering Committee, Gannawarra Shire Council and the Department for Victorian Communities. She will also ensure that information about the Project and its progress is readily available to the people of Kerang and that opportunities for participation are well promoted.

Please contact Tracey Davis, Community Development Officer at the Gannawarra Shire Council, on 03 5450 9333 or email her at tracey.davis@gannawarra.vic.gov.au for further information.
