Take a step back in time to Historic Kerang. The brochure 'Self Guided Walk or Drive Historic Kerang' provides a map and 84 different historical landmarks in Kerang, giving details about each one.

It is suggested that you start your walk/drive at one of Kerang's well known landmarks, the Town Clock at the corner of Wellington and Victoria Streets.

The brochure is available from the Kerang Information Centre or the Gannawarra Shire Council Offices.

1. Memorial Clock
Erected in 1933 in Memory of school mistress, Miss Karlie McDonald, who drowned while saving two high school students from the Loddon River in 1927.

Former site of "Gleanarm" home built in 1893. Opened as Glenarm Private Hospital in 1908. Glenarm purchased by the Baptist Union Victoria in 1958 and opened as Northaven elderly person units in 1960.

Built in 1927 as a First World War Memorial. The portico is architecturally significant, being circular, two floors high and pillared.

Built as London Chartered Bank. A stately building of obvious English design with sharply pitched roof to through of snow. Original stable on Fiztroy Street. Original iron work on roof made local foundry, Avards.

7. Post Office
Original Post Office was in Patchell's store in Nolan Street (near 77) before temporarily being moved to the Royal Hotel (8). Present post office was built in 1886.

Unique Water tower built 1883 as people began to get tired of getting water from the river and from the well near the present shell service station. In 1973 the huge look out ower was lifted the top to provide a panoramic view of Kerang, the Loddon River and the surrounding lakes district.
Sir John Gorton Library of ultra modern design was built in 2003.

Kerang Railway Station opened in 1884 when the railway line from Bendigo to Kerang Opened. Line extended to Swan Hill in 1889. Before railway, all mail and passengerss were conveyed by Cobb & Co. coaches.

83. Patchell's Bridge (Twin Bridges)
84. Historical Museum
Built in the 1800s by A.G Shelly, brother-in-law of Woodford Patchell. Later used as bush nursing home and hospital. Museum established 1967 and now houses over 3000 artefacts including Woodford Patchell's irrigation work from 1863.
